Like many people my age, this was so relatable (not saying why ๐) between me and my then best mate Shawn. We watched it religiously and it was and still is funny (even though now maybe a little more about nostalgia).
I didn't really watch this at the time, but I remember it being hugely popular! I did however watch some of the spin-off episodes of Daria, about the nerdy classmate, which I liked.
Great newsletter! I recognise this cartoon from an episode of Friends, with Joey and Chandler laughing along to the cartoon... It was clearly an iconic watch throughout the 90s!
As a 90s teen, one just felt cool and rebellious watching this. It went with grunge music and dress and the idea that we wanted to do/ be something better than mainstream...even though this was a heavily marketed MTV hit. It worked.
I remember this being around, but we didnโt have Sky at the time, so couldnโt watch it when I would have appreciated the humour. When we *did* get satellite tv, my younger brother loved it, which meant that I automatically found it annoying, in the way of long-suffering older teenaged sisters everywhere! ๐๐
Oddly enough, I was the metal fan, not him, but I also could have channeled Daria (and Darlene from Roseanne) for most of my teen years. ๐คฆโโ๏ธ

It was certainly of its time, and I can see why it had such a significant impact. Friends, classic :)
Thanks for this. Darlene from Rosanne brings back memories, she was such a great character!
She did indeed, she may even feature one day ๐คฉ Thabks for reading.

It certainly did. They were anti-everything, but it tapped into the universal teenage angst so well.
Daria eventually got her own show, which ran for several years.
I love that disclaimer- heading off the would-be imitators at the pass.
Ass-covering at its finest
