I used to watch both the English and Welsh versions growing up of this and Fireman Sam. This was definitely in my era!

As an adopted Texan, I truly enjoy that the bad guy is named Texas Pete. I wonder if the SuperTed creator named the character after the hot sauce brand.

My brother was a huge fan of SuperTed back in the day. He owned a couple of the SuperTed storybooks too. I never watched it but I might give it a watch sometime because it looks so cute and the animation style is amazing. I didn't know it was a British cartoon. That's really cool.

I know this one from renting videotapes of the British shows, which are the superior version. The American series tried to make him more "American" and it didn't work out well.

It certainly influenced my future writing career path, I know that...

I loved Superted as a kid (I was definitely in the target audience!) We had a few of the books too, which were also excellently made. I didn’t realise til much more recently that Jon Pertwee was the voice of Spotty, but there has always been a strong history in UK of well known people voicing kids’ tv (even Terry Wogan narrated a cartoon in the 80s!)

He was a great voice choice for Spotty. Indeed he did, Terry Wogan was a voice in Stoppit & Tidyup. Quality.

And David Jason for danger mouse!

Yes, he was!

And I’m so glad I’m not the only one who remembers Stoppit & Tidyup (and the Big Bad ISaidNO!) 😂.

It was a great era of odd cartoons with great messages - and some weird weird things from across the world too. I mean, on the one hand Belle & Sebastian; on the other, Rude Dawg & the Dweebs.

Oh, you are so right. There were some real curveballs as the UK started to get a wider range of animation from around the word.

That's so good to hear that you liked it, as it was so simple and had great animation for younger children. Thank you so much, too, for reading and taking the time to leave a positive comment.

This really made me laugh, nope, it really did happen. 🤣

Thanks for reading and commenting, he was a great Dr Who too 😍

Thank you for reminding me of long forgotten animations. I was also too old to be the target audience for Super Ted but his image was everywhere.

This was one of my favourites growing up. Super Ted was quite popular in Australia and I still have fond memories of it. Great article!

I saw this when I was a kid! Good to know it wasn't a fever dream. Thanks!

I've never heard of Super Ted. I wonder if it was ever distributed in the U.S.

It was indeed shown in the US with voices changed to suit an American audience but I don’t think it did too well.

Like you, I was also a bit old for this one, but I remember the voice actors being particularly good, especially Jon Pertwee as Spotty! :)

I was not the target age group for Superted when it was broadcast so I found this very informative! Texas Pete- Brilliant 😄
