I've loved Paddington since childhood and even had one of my own which is in terrible shape from being almost loved to death. While I am a fan of the older shorts from the 70s and the 80s specials, I could never bring myself to watch the more recent movies. That incarnation of Paddington quite frankly borders on Uncanny Valley and gives me the creeps. 😬
Loved your observation of Paddington's politeness in the plots. Appreciate you lowering the paywall. Love reading your pieces, but simply too strapped to spend. Glad you're having fun!
I had always heard about Paddington Bear, and knew of his iconic look, but never dug into the details about his background or how he relates to the world around him.
But what you've posted here brings into clarity what I've aimed for in my comic strip - about kindness and how to live by it, without it being seen as sappy or weak. I now feel Paddington is a touchstone for what to aim further for in my strip. Thank you so much - and I suppose, Michael Bond as well!
Those original animations are just wonderful. The books formed a part of my childhood that I will always remember. Thanks so much for taking the time to comment.
I have always loved Paddington. Great write-up, Jon!
Thanks so much Charlie. He really is a hero as he proves that kindness is king.

He is a legend and is quintessentially British. The early animation is just wonderful. Thanks for reading and commenting.

Thanks Jill, that’s so kind. I have totally removed all paywalls so everything is totally free 😁
