I remember the 'nice but dim' Gillespie. For some reason I've always found it appealing that a plasticine character would be given a name like that.
Also, while Tony Hart has rightly been praised for introducing children to art, I suspect that for many of them he was also a safe, reassuring presence in their lives for a few minutes each week.
Oh, I absolutely loved Morph! And Tony Hart's Take Hart! I too never had a picture featured in the Gallery...I can hear the Gallery theme tune now. As I was reading this, I could also hear the chuckle that Morph had when he got one over on Chas. Such an endearing, simple animation. Thank you for the nostalgic reminder :)
I've never heard of this show before! I love old classic claymation shows like this. I'll have to check it out. The animation and vibe of it kind of reminds me of Pingu. It's amazing to see that it went on to inspire Wallace And Gromit.
New to me!
What a lovely step back in time, and the reassuringly laid back Take Hart, Tony Hart and the Gallery…

Chas! I was reading this piece trying desperately to remember what his pal was called and you put me out my misery, Jon 👍🏼😁
Great character and a brilliant call back to my childhood so thanks very much for this 🙏
Thanks so much. It was my childhood too. Have spent the morning with the music from the gallery feature from Take Hart in my head 😁
He’s very cute! Never seen him before. Did you guys in the U.K. have Gumby also?
Gumby is new to me.
I wonder if it’s the US version? It rip off 😆

Thanks so much. It was great to write this and have that hit of nostalgia too.

You are right, it is very Pingu. I am a Pingu fan . 🐧
It would be interesting to team Morph up with his American equivalent, Gumby (who debuted earlier), since their series clearly had similar formats.
Now that would be cool.
