Thank you for sharing this interesting piece on an animation that I don't recall ever watching (likely because it was after my childhood but before having my own children!) but it sounds fascinating in the way it blended humour, animation and more serious issues.
I loved (football head) hey Arnold. As a kid I didn’t appreciate the artwork in it but as an adult I can see the progressive shade and mood that the cartoonists created. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
A very remarkable program. There are very few animated shows that try to be true to life as opposed to a form of escapism, and "Arnold" shined as a rare example of how animation can concede by being realistic in nature, as opposed to fantastic.
I agree David. I also wanted to say thank you so much for always taking the time to comment and bring your knowledge to my Substack, it is always great to see your thoughtful comments. Thank you.
I'm currently rewatching Hey Arnold right now so this article couldn't have come soon enough. I loved reading this so much. One of my all-time favourite childhood cartoons ever. I always loved Helga as a character and how heartbreaking her relationship with her family was, especially with her sister. 'Helga On The Couch' is one of my favourites and the episode where Arnold frees the old turtle from the zoo. There's so many episodes I love so much and that still make me feel. Wonderful article!
You can definitely see Stewie Griffin's head evolved from Arnold's.
I always thought this as well!
One of my favourites back in the late 90s!
