I know what you mean as my family love this too. I think that they did such a great job of the legend. We live near the grave of Little John and often went to visit the church where legend says Robin Hood and Maid Marian were married.

I think we had this on repeat when my son was young. Fun read!

I know, I sometimes wonder how many of the creatures in Disney movies were changed along the way. Thanks for reading.

This is one of the best animated features Disney ever did. It never loses its charm after multiple viewings and holds up better than most of what they're doing now.

And that voice cast! This is the first and only time the voices of Peter Ustinov and Terry-Thomas shared screen time with those of Phil Harris, Andy Devine and Pat Buttram! Very strange bedfellows.

Thanks for this, and Merry Christmas.

I grew up loving this film. One of my family’s all time favorites. So interesting to learn about the way producers dealt with the budget constraints. Some amazing characters and scenes!

Thank you for this, my kids used to love this one (even though it was a vintage by then!) Prince John and Sir Hiss are the funniest characters in the film :)

It was a classic. I definitely wanted to be Robin Hood when I watched it. 🎯

Another Disney favourite of mine! I didn't realise Maid Marian uses a zip - and it's funny that Friar Tuck was originally imagined as a pig. Great newsletter

You missed the songs! There were some fantastic songs in this film, that always moved the story along. They were never there as filler, but either as scene-setting (‘Not in Nottingham’ at the start) or plot elements (‘phoney King of England’, which you mentioned). But they were all really catchy.

(Btw, I received my degree from Peter Ustinov, as he was Chancellor of Durham University towards the end of his life. I’d never twigged that it was him in this, but I can hear it now you’ve said it. He was still a great storyteller, even in 2000!)

You are so right! The songs were stunning and get stuck in your head. I love that you met Peter Ustinov, that is so cool. I am doing something about songs in the new year so will correct my error.

Thanks as ever for reading. 😀
