That is such a brilliant response, thank you. I am a child of the 80s (born in ‘72) so remember them through late 70s and Early 80s too. Trumpton was a classic…Pugh, Pugh, Barny McGrew, Cuthbert, Dibble, Grubb😎

Thank you so much for reading. I too loved it, although saw the re-runs from 1972! Brian Cant was the perfect voice.

This is wonderful, Jon! I remember this programme so well. I probably watched it soon after it came out. Lots of childhood memories coming back with it. Amazing how TV impacted us even then. Thank you for your research and for sharing this with us.

As soon as I saw the title, I got the tune in my head. (I’m a child of the 80s repeats) I think I preferred Trumpton, cos more happened, and I don’t remember Chigley at all.

Another totally pleasant and friendly slice-of-life show. We had quite a few of those sorts of shows around then - I think of Pigeon Street as the 80s town remake, but the village I grew up in was kinda in between the two. We still had the village posties, and postmistress, village butcher, the next village along has a windmill, etc, but it was starting to get busy with traffic, but between these shows and Postman Pat, it represented a lot of what I saw as a pre-schooler.

I’d forgotten the PWEI sample, but yes, I remember that too - my brother was a fan of them in the early-90s, so I heard a ton of their stuff.

Yet another British show I never heard of before. It sounds like Thomas Hardy without the romance and tragedy...
