History
DuckTales first premiered in 1987 and quickly became a well-developed and popular animated series that captured viewers' hearts worldwide. Initially created by Carl Barks and Jymn Magon, the show followed the adventures of Scrooge McDuck and his grandnephews Huey, Dewey, and Louie as they embarked on thrilling escapades filled with treasure hunts, mysteries, and excitement.
The success of DuckTales not only solidified the Walt Disney Company's position in the animation industry but also paved the way for a resurgence of interest in animated television programming. It drove a new push of creativity and innovation in storytelling, character development, and animation techniques, setting the stage for future iconic animated series and films.
Finally, the animation’s success led to further Disney cartoons, such as TaleSpin and Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, which, in the US, also led to Disney afternoons. Launchpad McQuack later reappears within the Disney Canon, starting as the main character of Darkwing Duck.
In 2015, Disney XD announced the show’s reboot, which ran from August 12, 2017, concluding on March 15, 2021.

Coming Up
On Tuesday, 20th February, the excellent Jack Watson from Diary of a Teacher will share his Animated Anecdote. If you would like to write yours, please feel free to contact me.
Starting next week and for the whole of March, I will be writing essay-style pieces on how culture has impacted cartoons and how cartoons have, in turn, impacted popular culture.
Barks created the characters and format in Disney comics. Magon developed the television version.
It was one of the earliest television animation programs produced by Disney and the first to air in a syndicated format, which was then embellished with other series in the "Disney Afternoon" programming block. Its' success led to many other made-for-TV Disney projects of varying quality.
I'm more familiar with the original '80s version, but I'm interested in seeing how the remake measures up.
We’ve recently gone back to this one in our house! Thanks for helping us keep all the ducks straight 😅
