This is the first of four pieces from Ross Symons from White on Rice. In it, he explains a little more about his fantastic origami animation and finishes by showing the completed piece.
I worked with a company called North to create this campaign. They generated the concept for a print production company called Novus Holdings. The idea was to encapsulate the feeling of nostalgia when reading a book. I created some origami characters that might be found in a book - a mouse, a duck, a dragon, etc. I used designs that were already in my repertoire. This brought the cost of the animation down, as I didn't have to design the characters specifically for the animation.
Visually, this was a minimalist set with a book opening up and revealing the characters. The voiceover brought the entire piece together nicely.
The visual concept and storyboarding creation took about ten days. This took me about three days of shooting and editing.
Nothing like a cultured British accent to evoke a feeling of nostalgia (in us Yanks).
But an excellent little piece altogether!
Charming! Thanks for sharing, Jon.
